Cuba: Tropical Storm Oscar Weakens; Rain and Surf Alerts Continue

It is forecasted to move out to sea by late this afternoon from the northern coast, specifically in the province of Holguín, where it has had a significant impact.

Tropical Storm Oscar continues in the eastern region of Cuba with little change. Its maximum sustained winds remain at 65 km per hour, with higher gusts, and its minimum pressure has risen to 1003 hectopascals.

The Cuban Meteorological Institute reported that the center of Tropical Storm Oscar, at 3 PM, was estimated at 20.7 degrees north latitude and 75.9 degrees west longitude, positioning it 25 km west of Mayarí and southwest of Antilla, both located in Holguín. It was reported that it is moving west at a speed of 9 km per hour.

In the coming hours, heavy rains, showers, and thunderstorms are expected to continue affecting the eastern region of the island, including towns and mountainous areas.

This will result in a decrease in winds to 45-60 km per hour, with higher gusts. Strong swells and flooding will persist in the provinces of Holguín, Guantánamo, and Las Tunas, gradually diminishing as the cyclone moves away from the island.
